Massimo Pieretti was a joint winner of this website’s “debut album of 2023” award with his wonderful work, A New Beginning.

Enter 2024, and we have the promise of a new album, entitled The Next Dream, a concept about the world of dreams and the creatures who inhabit them, with an array of guests including Laura Piazzai, Nick Fletcher, John Hackett, Rob Townsend, and all the members of Noage.

Ahead of this, Pieretti has released Creatures of the Night Part Two. The video is available on YouTube, and I have embedded it below. Instantly, you get a blinding guitar piece, the quality shining through (Fletcher also won an award last year, the Instrumental Album of 2023).

There is a nice mix of the symphonic, the operatic, especially with the incredibly dramatic voice of Piazzai, and the harder rock Pieretti is honing through his collaboration with Noage.

As a taster for the main event coming later this year, this works extremely well. I have always been interested in the subconscious world, and the lyrics here suggest that we will get a very good theme from this. The mix is extremely good, and the virtuosity shines though, the keyboards adding some layered textures and the drum work very powerful.

I am looking forward to the main event. Massimo Pieretti is a very good musician and songwriter, and it is no accident that he has surrounded himself with such talent.
