Massimo Pieretti is well known to followers of my little website and, indeed, video channel, given that it was he who persuaded me to break my video interview duck and dive into the weird and wonderful world of YouTube media. I am grateful to him, and it is typical of a talented artist whose A New Beginning was a seminal debut album that he is so full of warmth, something absolutely recognised with the artists he has brought together to help him for his forthcoming sophomore work, Creatures of the Night.

I Dreamed of Flying is the second release from this on 18th May and anticipates an EP ahead of the album. A timely lyric on this, Pieretti takes on the wars and violence raging across our planet, and lyrically he was assisted by his sister, Patrizia, and his collaborator, Gianluca del Torto. Further, we have a veritable smorgasbord of guest musicians here, including Mattias Olsson from Anglagard on drums. Let me say this – the guests I know are lined up for Creatures of the Night only appear on quality work.

So, we have just short of four minutes of music. I love the cello accompanying the opening spoken word; Michael Trew of Moon Letters has such an expressive voice and harmonises nicely with Amy Breathe. Fabrizio Russo plays a nicely understated fretless bass, whilst the guitar work of Roberto Falcinelli & Luigi Pistillo adds a classical tint to what is a rather lovely operatic piece which takes an interesting symphonic turn with the keys in the final passage.

Class stuff from Pieretti which simply has us salivating for the full and final release. The single is released on 18th May.
