‍ Over to The Netherlands to consider Iron Jinn, who have released an epic-length single, The Futurist via Suburban Records, this in advance of their new album to be released in September, described by the label as “Reich and Roll”.‍ ‍

There is a huge amount going on in just shy of 18 minutes of music this, and it received a warm welcome when I played it on a recent radio show.‍ ‍

You can see their discography on the Bandcamp page at https://ironjinn.bandcamp.com/ and the new album will be their first as a five piece. ‍ ‍

The theme here is machine as messiah, our salvation based on models and data, presumably the algorithms spewing out its visions.‍ ‍

So, we get some psychedelic jamming, Purple-esque manoeuvres, trancey vocals, angry vocals, whirring riffs, use of keys to create sometimes malevolent dramatic soundscapes, the drums at times thundering out of the speakers, and when they turn up the volume, the intensity is mesmerising, but then, at the flick of a note switch, we move to haunting, to fusion-based jingling on the keys, rumbling riffs dissonant and threatening, bass used as a foundational lead, so about as close to a definition of episodic music as you are likely to get.‍ ‍

It is worth a purchase in its own right, for sure, and it has me salivating for the full album release. It is adventurous, it brings together so many progressive and classic rock elements, is very clever, and very good.
